Urban trends
and street style can be found at their most raw in music videos of underground
artists. With their finger on the pulse of what’s current and an influence over
fashion at street level, once an image goes viral in a local area a true micro
trend can be born; and with Social Media sites granting access at a global
scale, this can spread a whole lot quicker than your weekly fashion magazine.
SBTV released
a visual feast to accompany grime track “Evolution” not too long ago – and the
buzz quickly spread from Twitter, to stations such as Rinse and finally onto
Radio 1Extra and Kiss FM. From Kid
Bookie’s EP "The F*ck You Chronicles" the tune showcases the talents
of five MC’s; Griminal, Brotherhood, Pawz, Dot Rotten and Maxsta – along with
Bookie stealing back a final verse for himself, of course.
Kicking off
with a slogan jumper and slanted beanie, the style stage was set by Griminal; hailing
from East London. He has just released a track with JME so keep ears open...
Last month
Brotherhood, made up of duo Menace & Blaze, released “Love Life Hate The
World” tshirt range – the idea behind the brand is to ‘appreciate life itself
but despise the state of the world in which you live it.’ They are available to buy here - perfect for
making a statement this slogan-tee season, and every one sold also comes with
an invitation to one of their music video shoots this Summer.
It’s no
secret that beanies are all the rage this season, but all the cool cats are
wearing them to one side – as seen on Dot Rotten, who scored highly in the
style stakes during his feature, teaming his beanie with a patched varsity
jacket and rocking some serious neck candy.
Most of you may remember this fella from last summer’s banger “Overload”
Introducing
Pawz, whose individual style stands out with his ahead-of-the-pack blue tartan
shirt and matching snapback – mixing it up by wearing back-to-front for an
on-trend 90’s retro edge. On the SE
London music scene for some years, and having recently performed at DJ Cameo’s
birthday bash, Pawz is currently putting the finishing touches to his next EP
to be released soon – follow him on Twitter for the latest freestyles &
updates.
Bookie can be
seen sporting this shell suit, a good nod to the 80’s sports phenomenon that
kept on kicking right through the 90’s.
Adidas being a firm brand favourite; also hailing from SE London and a
regular on Radio 1Extra & Kiss FM.
I had to
throw this in the mix – Maxsta, probably best known for his tune “I Wanna Rock”
– certainly rocked this printed bomber jacket with contrasting snapback in his
latest video offering. BANG on trend.
